Certified nurse midwives at PHS provide well-woman and gynecologic care for women of all ages including family
planning, preconception, menopause and the treatment of common primary care health problems, obstetric care
including prenatal, postnatal and intrapartum care, care of the normal newborn during the first 28 days of life, and
treatment of male partners for sexually transmitted infections. This position would be shared 50% with UNC Chatham
Hospital to provide inpatient care for pregnant and postpartum women and newborns, requiring night and weekend
coverage. Expected duties at UNC Chatham Hospital may include Triage assessment of pregnant women,
limited obstetric ultrasound, labor and delivery, postpartum care and assessment and
care of the normal newborn.
Outpatient providers are responsible for seeing their scheduled patients as well as walk-ins and add-ons, providing
coverage during the operating hours of the Center, providing telephone consultation as needed, and performing
administrative tasks associated with the provision of medical care. Medical providers are expected to manage all
patients and conditions within the scope of their training and approved privileges. There are no categorical limits on
the type of clinical problem or patient seen by an advanced practice provider; however, severe illness and complex
presenting complaints are understood to warrant consultation with a supervising physician.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education: Advanced Practice Providers must have completed an approved Physician Assistant, certified nurse midwife or Nurse Practitioner program and receive certification as appropriate.
Licensure/Certifications: A North Carolina license to practice as a Physician Assistant, Certified Nurse Midwife or Nurse Practitioner is required and must be kept current. Controlled Substance Registration Certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration ("DEA certificate") is required and must be kept current. Basic Life Support certification is required as is Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO).
Experience: 3 years of clinical experience preferred, Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

care will be based on his/her scope of training and approved privileges.)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Vision of at least 20/40 with correction; hearing sufficient to converse over the telephone without misunderstanding and to understand conversation spoken in a normal voice 15 feet away; ability to speak intelligibly and clearly; fine motor skills sufficient to perform physical examinations and minor surgical procedures, write correspondence and fill out necessary paperwork; ability to walk or otherwise move down hallways and through doorways without assistance and must be capable of rapid locomotion in case of emergency (100 feet in 25 seconds or less).
Clinical environment with exposure to chemicals, pathogens and patient body fluids.
