MEDICAL ASSISTANT

JOB SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Medical Assistant is for patient check-ins, including vital signs and documentation; collect and correctly identify patient specimen; perform screenings, EKGs and measurements for Ted Hoses. Perform vision and hearing screening; perform laboratory procedures, quality controls, injections and PPD placements. Operation and maintenance of the sterilizer; eye and ear irrigation. Provides support and assistance to the staff and providers in the provision of care. Clean exam rooms and maintain room supplies. Completes administrative duties as needed for the clinic. Provide care delegated by provider or registered nurse under NC Medical Board and NC Board of Nursing regulations.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: High school graduate required. One year of experience with the frail or elderly preferred.  LPN, or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program preferred. If unaccredited as an MA, must have served for a minimum of 1 year a Certified Nursing Assistant at Piedmont Health Services and demonstrated ability to function independently in that role.

  • Must meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by PHSC and approved by CMS before working independently.

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required:  Completion of PHS 8-12 week MA Training Program

Immunizations:  Be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date prior to beginning employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKING CONDITIONS

Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.

 

Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to medical providers, patients and multiple personnel in person and over the telephone.

 

Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Must meet certification by colorblind standards.

 

Other: Will be working with potentially hazardous chemicals, exposure to patient body fluids.

Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.
